ColumbiaAS1 1898 Columbia AS
Coin-operated Phonograph

This very clean, original coin-operated phonograph was produced around 1898. The cost to play a song was 5 cents. Machines like this were screwed into a counter or table to prevent theft

What is most remarkable is that the original marquee, horn and keys are still together. Most or all of these items were lost, damaged or thrown away over the years.

Original instruction card

The instructions were quite simple. Why they needed an instruction card is unknown.

ColumbiaAS3 Mechanism

Very clean and all original.

ID tag

Notice the ID tag identifying this as a Type "S". Apparently Columbia was using up old ID tags at the time this AS was produced.
